The Power of Purposeful Partnership
In a town where community values run deep, the enduring partnership between First National Bank (FNB) and the Boothbay Region YMCA is a heart-felt beacon of what local collaboration can achieve. Their shared commitment to social responsibility and community well-being is not only visible—it’s transformative.
“First National has long understood that connecting with people is the most valuable kind of investment,” says YMCA CEO Andy Hamlett. “Their continued support enables us to expand our reach and deepen our impact across the region.”
One of the most visible examples of this partnership is the Y’s “Grab’n Go” fridge, made possible in part through a generous grant from FNB. Located in the YMCA’s front lobby, the fridge is stocked daily with healthy snacks—available to youth, members, and the broader community.
“This isn’t just about snacks,” says Lisa McIntosh, Director of Operations at the Y. “It’s about dignity, nourishment, and making sure no child or adult in our community has to face hunger alone.”
In 2023, FNB took its commitment further by supporting the A Greater Impact capital campaign and helped purchase two new mini-buses, essential to the Y’s youth programming. These vehicles are lifelines—transporting local students to Camp Knickerbocker after school and throughout the summer, while also offering mobility for off-peninsula teen trips and statewide excursions for international camp staff.
“Many of our counselors are coming to the U.S. for the first time,” notes Senior Program and Camp K Director Erin Gray. “Having the ability to take them around to explore Maine on the weekends—from the mountains to the coast—makes their experience unforgettable and builds lasting cultural bridges.”
Another cornerstone of this partnership is First National Bank’s ongoing support of the Y’s Camp K Fund. This initiative ensures that no child is turned away from summer camp due to financial hardship, offering income-based rates and direct financial assistance to individuals and families.
Together, First National and the Boothbay Region YMCA demonstrate the power of purposeful partnership. From combating food insecurity and supporting youth development, to championing inclusive summer camp access, their collaboration is a testament to what’s possible when organizations lead with heart.
“This is about more than philanthropy—it’s about shared values and real outcomes,” says Alyssa Allen, Community Engagement Officer at FNB. “We’re proud to stand with the Y in creating a healthier, inclusive, and more connected Boothbay region.”
