BRWD to conduct watershed survey
Boothbay Region Water District Natural Resources Manager Rebecca Jacobs is conducting a new watershed survey on Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake. The survey's purpose is to create a comprehensive report of the area's geographical features and identify any potential or active pollution sources. The last one was completed in 2014.
Jacobs will also take a boat out onto the water bodies this summer to inspect buffers and shorelines. Final data analysis will begin in the fall.
In other business, BRWD is working to acquire watershed land on Back River Road in Boothbay. “The best way to protect open-source drinking water supplies is to purchase undeveloped land ... Mother Nature does it best,” explained Jacobs.
The board welcomed new trustee Steve Lorrain Sr., who is taking over for Merritt Blakeslee as Boothbay Harbor representative. Holly Stover was re-elected as Boothbay trustee.
