Sally Lloyd returning 2014
Last week we reported that Chef George would be returning to the fold for the 2014 season and today we are excited to report that Junior Sailing Director Sally Lloyd has committed to return for her second full season in that role and her third season as coach and director of the High School Sail program sponsored by BHYC.
Under Sally’s direction the program had a record enrollment last summer and she is pleased to announce that the program will be extended this year to 10 full weeks of instruction and competition. The High School program has just completed its fall season and 16 area youth participated in both daily training and weekend regattas. During the offseason, Sally is working on plans and schedules for the coming summer and she can also be seen working at McSeagull’s and the Red Cup Coffee Shop in her spare time.
Sally has also been busy covering the Jr. Program Whalers and Opti’s and 420’s to protect from the winters snows and ice. This involves some 35 boats so is a major task in itself. Plans are that in 2014 all of the Jr. program activities will be centered at the McKown house. This will free up space at the entrance to the clubhouse and also in the casino so that it can be used by adults exclusively. There are many logistics to be organized to accommodate this move but it is hoped that it will be a major boon to operations this season.
The Thursday gathering last week at the Hakanson home was extremely well attended. I personally counted 82 and I actually may have missed a few I am sure. There was much excited conversation about winter plans and summer dreams. Thanks to Eric and Sandi for allowing us to share their beautiful home. The next event in the winter series is the very special Christmas party that will be hosted by Past Commodore Marianne Reynolds on Thursday December 19th.
We trust that readers have noticed the proposed new members circulated in the past two weeks. The membership committee like many other volunteer groups does not sit idle in the winter. Thanks Suzy Mace and Lee Rowan for your dedication.
