Dedicated community members join forces in Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor to combat climate change
A group of passionate individuals from Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor have united under the banner of the Boothbay Region Climate Action Team (BRCAT), driven by a shared commitment to tackle the pressing issue of climate change. Their combined expertise, ranging from environmental science to community engagement, reflects a diverse and dedicated effort to safeguard the local environment and ensure a sustainable future for the community.

Boothbay Resident Shri Verrill has been a driving force in mobilizing climate action efforts in the region. Her journey began with a simple inquiry at the Boothbay town office, and after nearly two years of dedicated work, the group is now focused on establishing an effective climate action team.
Abby Jones, an administrator at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, draws inspiration from the institution's esteemed scientists and educators. Her prior experience in education and service at the Boothbay YMCA, as well as her involvement with the BB/BBH School Board, underscores her commitment to engaging youth in the fight against climate change.
Rachel Sipler, a scientist residing in East Boothbay, is driven by her dual roles as a parent and a climate change researcher. Her expertise in understanding the impacts of a changing climate on the environment has positioned her as a vital asset in Boothbay's preparedness efforts.
Evan Henerberry, a recent addition to the peninsula, has quickly developed a deep appreciation for the community's natural beauty and close-knit spirit. He believes in the power of collective action to address climate challenges and strengthen community bonds, underscoring the importance of collaborative planning for a sustainable future.
Sandy Paxson, a longtime participant in the Boothbay community, channels her passion as a PFA into her work with the climate action group. Her commitment to preserving the safety and well-being of the community she holds dear drives her involvement.
In Boothbay Harbor, Lenore Imhof expresses gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside hardworking and compassionate community members. Her dedication to preserving the working waterfront and the natural splendor of the Peninsula is evident in her commitment to the Boothbay Climate Group.
Dave Cody, a resident of Boothbay Harbor since retiring from emergency management five years ago in Massachusetts is now serving as the Boothbay Region Emergency Management Director, and brings a wealth of experience to the group. His motivation lies in safeguarding the area's natural beauty and ensuring the safety of his neighbors.
The Boothbay Climate Group stands as a beacon of hope and determination, embodying the collective will of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor residents to combat climate change and protect their cherished community. Together, they forge ahead, committed to a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
A public workshop will be held Nov. 30: "Working Together for the Future" Prioritizing Climate Actions for the Boothbay Region. The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that community members have a voice in determining which climate adaptation and or mitigation priorities are moved forward for immediate action.
The meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Boothbay Region YMCA.
