Many times here, we have given kudos to Help Yourself Shelf, Feed Our Scholars and their volunteers and donors for their efforts to help people have enough food and other supplies. And St. Philip’s and First Congregational churches are ever deserving of praise for all they do for the community, like the Blue Christmas service being held again this year at First Congregational.

With the latest batch of announcements from those groups and others, like Lincoln County Toys for Tots, now on our print and web pages, we are reminded how important they are this time of year and, many of them, the rest of the year also.

Other local efforts have emerged in recent years such as Alna’s food pantry and community garden; and Wiscasset Ford’s pantry, all to help others. The spirit of giving flourishes in and around Wiscasset.

To the few groups mentioned here and all the others, thank you for your time you put in. It is your time, after all, and what a productive, helpful way you have chosen to spend it. And to those who give money, food, toys, or anything else, kudos, too. 

Of course, giving, of time, etc. isn’t about thanks. It’s about making things better, happier, or both. And the people of our towns are on the right track.
