Ocean Point Column: A chance find, two condolences and more
Fall has been an extremely busy one and this is the first opportunity I’ve had to sit down to write a column in quite some time. I do wish I had had the chance to recognize and thank our Veteran’s for there service on Veteran’s Day (although we should be thanking them every day) and that I was unable to wish everyone a healthy and happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. I do hope it was enjoyable.
The time has passed so quickly since the seasonal water turn off, it seems impossible that we are days away from the Christmas holiday. Also, Mother Nature surprised us with a couple of inches of snow over the weekend, a sure sign that winter is upon us.
Not long after we closed our cottage I received an email from a lovely woman from Florida who was renting what was formally the Cutchall cottage. I’m sure many of you remember Pat and her husband Harlan who were residents of Ocean Point for many years until several years ago.
The woman was looking through the Ocean Point cookbook at the cottage and wondered if I knew where she might purchase one. As you recall the cookbook was the brainstorm of Kate Johnson who generously gave of her time and effort to put together the book as a fundraiser. Many of us Ocean Pointers shared some of our favorite recipes for the book.
Unfortunately the cookbook has not been in circulation for quite some time now however, as luck would have it I was able to find one on eBay for her, she was delighted!
She and her husband loved the house and of course Ocean Point and she began to inquire about its history. I shared what I recalled over the years and unfortunately in my search for more information regarding the house I learned that former owner Pat Cutchall had died this past February at her home in North Hampton, New Hampshire.
Although I did not personally know Pat, many Ocean Pointers did. I do know that she thoroughly enjoyed her time at Ocean Point with family and friends and had many interests including theater, art, dance, tennis and gardening.
Our condolences to her husband Harlan and her children Cynthia, Christopher, Katy and Mary Beth, her 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Sadly, last month Louise Molter passed away. Louise and her late husband Leo (Sonny) spent many years summering at Ocean Point with their children Lois (Cricket) and Leo (Butch).
Louise will be remembered for her warm demeanor, kindness and her caring nature and beautiful smile. When you met Louise while out for a walk along the shore she always expressed a genuine interest in what may be happening in your life.
Louise enjoyed Ocean Point and the incredible view of the ocean from the porch. She loved to craft and created beautiful figures from wood that she proudly displayed in her home and sold at craft fairs.
Our condolences to her daughter Cricket and husband Tom Haley, her son Butch and his wife Bethany and her grandchildren Kevin Haley, Todd Molter and Erin McKechnie.
I was excited to learn that Nate and Kristin Nichols are now the new owners of the Brownell cottage. They have rented at Ocean Point in past summers and are excited to now be residents, welcome to you and your family.
I understand that the Nichols family is good friends with their next-door neighbors Mari McGuire and family. Be sure to check out some of Mari’s latest creations, if not in person, then certainly on All Things Ocean Point that include the Elf on the Shelf kissing booth and the Grinch; always so festive and fun Mari, thank you!
Thank you as well to all who post on All Things Ocean Point; it’s such a great way to stay connected to the Point when you can’t be there in person!
Enjoy your holidays and have a great week!
