By a vote of 5-1, Shawna Kurr of Camden-Rockport Elementary School has been approved as principal of Boothbay Region Elementary School. 

About two dozen staff and parents attended to give support to current Assistant Principal Tricia Campbell who was reportedly in the running for the job. After the committee listened to several concerns about hiring from outside the community and overlooking Campbell’s tenure at BRES, the committee entered into executive session to discuss personnel matters.

Committee members emerged from the session, then voted to approve Kurr. John Bertolet made the motion and Vice Chair Bruce MacDonald seconded it.  Bertolet, MacDonald, Kari Babcock, Stephanie Hawke and Chair Larry Colcord voted to approve. Peggy Splaine dissented.
