‘Who are you wearing?’: Edgecomb site of LCHA fashion show

Hoop skirts and full gigot sleeves met skinny pants and tunics on Saturday, Sept. 15 when the Lincoln County Historical Association held a fall fashion show at Water’s Edge resort facility in Edgecomb.

More than 50 attendees gave enthusiastic support during the luncheon event which featured clothing and accessories from 16 local shops and modeled by friends and association members.

Joe Zoellers proposed the event. He joined LCHA three years ago and is serving in his first year as a trustee. Executive Director Kerry Cushing co-chaired the show.

According to Zoellers, work began May 1 and donations were solicited early. “As a result, the show was underwritten before any tickets were sold. We are fortunate to have wonderful corporate sponsors.” LCHA will use all proceeds for the historic preservation of its three museums: the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta, the 1811 Old Jail & Museum in Wiscasset and the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden.

Corporate sponsors included Ron Sanchez of San-Pri Interiors; Tom Cramer, who underwrote a portion of the event and the flower arrangements; and Jennifer Spaur, who was responsible for organizing the show, including the 18 volunteer models.

Zoellers also credited “a great reception” from the merchants in Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Wiscasset and Damariscotta who loaned clothing and accessories.

As models moved around the dining room, historical clothing from the private collection of Faye Snyder provided an elegant background. Snyder, owner of Parade Antiques in Bath, is an LCHA member and has served as its collections chairman the past nine years. She is pleased with the number of textiles in the collection at the Old Jail, which she said is “amazing” for a small museum.

The next LCHA event will be a dinner Oct. 13 featuring 18th century recipes that would have been served in Maine in October. For more information on the event or LCHA, call 882-6817.
