Organist Virginia Bolena's next recital is Sept. 25 in Newcastle. Courtesy of Sean FlemingVirginia Bolena, organist and director of music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton, Virginia, will perform a recital on the historic 1888 Hutchings organ at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 11 Glidden St., Newcastle on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Ms. Bolena has performed as a recitalist at notable venues in Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan, New York- including St. Thomas Church Fifth Ave., New York City, and at the Town Hall in Oxford, England.
Her choirs have performed at the National Cathedral, in the United Kingdom at Christ Church, Oxford, and the Cathedral in Wells. She completed graduate work at East Carolina University, studying organ with Janette Fishell and choral conducting with Dan Bara. Ms. Bolena will perform works from well-known organ repertoire as well as works highlighting women composers.
