Trevett Column: Yard Sale July 11
Saturday, July 11 is the big day. The Better Than A Yard Sale will open its doors at 8 a.m. at the Barters Island Community Hall at 24 W. Side Road, Barters Island. This One Stop shopping event is a must do happening where you will find a boutique, a jewelry section, a flea market, a garden shop, a bakery, a lobster raffle and some surprises. The funds raised from this sale allow BICA to fulfill its mission of supporting those that need a little extra help. If you haven’t been to this sale before, you need to come to find out what you have been missing.
Last dropoff day for the sale is Friday, July 10. Just a reminder that clothing, electronics and large pieces of furniture are not accepted. Call Ken Bertwell at 760-219-5107 for questions or assistance.
July 15 will find us back at the BICA hall for the monthly potluck starting at 5:30. Our hosts, Jo, Harry and Liza are asking you to bring a main or side dish, a salad or a dessert that evening. If you are bringing guests maybe bring a few extra servings of your contribution. As always, water will be available and folks are welcome to bring their preferred beverages. All are welcome.
Another item for the calendar is the annual picnic to take place on Saturday, June22. More details on that event will be coming.
Laura and Bucky announced that the annual Lobster Raffle is going well but want to remind folks that the winner will be announced at the August picnic so there is not much time left to get your tickets. Prices are the same as last year, $1 per ticket or $5 gets you six tickets. The raffle is going to be two drawings of 12 lobsters so all ticket buyers will have 2 chances to win.
Our June hosts of Ann, Joan, Lee, Vic and Clark did a great job of hosting for the first time. They had the kitchen humming with Lee manning the plungers and Vic announcing the food. Thanks to all who contributed to the food assortment. The flower centerpieces added a colorful note and the extra clean up help by Ryan was appreciated. Thanks everybody.
Nicole, from Camden Bank, was to talk that evening on protecting oneself from scams but had to cancel so hopefully that presentation can be rescheduled.
Volunteers are needed to host the monthly potlucks which are held on the third Wednesday of each month. Hosting includes setting up tables, arranging the food, and helping with cleanup. Most volunteers finish by 8:00 p.m., and training is available. If you’re interested in hosting or would like more information, please contact Louise at pandlcowan@hotmail.com. Please note: potlucks cannot take place without hosts.
Feel free to help yourself to any of the books on the shelves or drop off ones that you have enjoyed and would like to share with others.
