Alice E. Drifmeyer
Alice Edna Drifmeyer of Woodstock, Georgia passed away on June 21, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She left behind her husband of 37 years, Fred Drifmeyer; her daughter, Janis Roberto (Lumsden), husband, Scott, and son, Cameron; her daughter, Moira Garcia (Lumsden) and husband, Jay; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Drifmeyer; two stepsons and their families; several nieces and nephews; as well as other beloved relatives and friends.
Alice was born on Oct. 27, 1949 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine to Harris Mathews Delano and Beatrice Edna Delano (both deceased). She was also predeceased by her three sisters Mary Hallinan (Delano), Sarah Delano and Carol Younts (Delano).
She graduated from Boothbay Harbor Region High School in 1967 and the University of Maine, Orono in 1971, earning a bachelor's degree in English. She met her first husband, Dale Lumsden in college. They settled on Cape Cod and she was a stay-at-home mom while her daughters were young. As they grew, she entered the workforce as a substitute teacher. Her true career calling came years later as a social worker with the state of Massachusetts, where she supported underserved populations in need of transitional assistance.
Alice and Fred met later in life and were married for 37 years. While most of their time together was spent living in Centerville, Massachusetts, they moved south in recent years to be closer to family. They have always held a special bond with music and sang in several choirs, including their own group, The MasterSingers of Cape Cod. The friendships Alice formed within these groups and her church communities were fulfilling spiritual touchstones in her life.
Alice was well-loved by everyone that met her. She had a steady, guiding presence, a smile to warm a room and a sense of humor that left a lasting impression. She loved wildlife and nature, having a particular fondness for her garden and window boxes—no one had more beautiful flowers than her. She would feed and talk to the birds every day. She was also known for her kindness and generosity toward cats, having taken in many stray and shelter felines over the years.
Her friends and family are deeply saddened by her sudden passing. We urge all that knew and loved her to continue her legacy by caring for people and animals as well as lifting up her memory through song whenever possible.
