Thrills and chills at annual SPOOKtacular
It was a day of tricks and treats Oct. 25 as costumed children and adults descended on Boothbay Railway Village Museum (BRV) for its annual SPOOKtacular. Marketing Director Lori Reynolds reported 750 people attended, 250 more than last year’s event.
“I think that people are really starting to learn more about all the fun that happens at the Railway Village. They're just jumping on board, so to speak,” she said.
Eighteen tables representing local businesses and organizations dotted the lawn, each decorated for the season with heaps of candy for the young princesses, superheroes, witches and scary clowns to feast on. Attendees voted on their favorite table display: Nathan's Wellness Pharmacy & Apothecary won first place, Eastside Waterfront Park won second, and third was Boothbay Region Ambulance Service’s (BRAS) “Haunted Ambulance.”
In addition to trick-or-treating, the event had barrel train rides, crafts, face painting, a bounce house, cornhole and a "Pumpkin Pound," where attendees got to thwack golf tees into the gourds. A Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt took visitors throughout the village with some spooky hidden surprises, such as an infested zombie wedding in the chapel.
“This event is a wonderful example of what BRV is about; a place for community to gather and celebrate. We cannot, and would not want to, do it without (our local organizations). From our heart to yours, thank you!” wrote Reynolds in an email to the Register.
