Successful midwinter board meeting
Last week was the winter reunion that really escapes winter. As we had yet another snowstorm in Maine, the snowbirds and their welcome visitors enjoyed a respite at the PGA resort in West Palm Beach for social and athletic events. The event was planned and executed by Paul and Sharma Schacknow who files the following report:
“The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club held its 2014 Winter Reunion in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. on February 12 and 13. Thirty-five members of the Club were hosted on Wednesday night for an Valentine’s Day themed dinner at the home of Paul and Sharma Schacknow, who used considerable influence with Mother Nature to hold off severe thunderstorms that had been threatened during the two days of events.
“On Thursday several groups of golfers got to play the Palmer course at PGA National Resort, some of the ladies lunched in Palm Beach at Renato’s Restaurant per arrangements of Carol Matwiczyk, some folks lunched poolside at the Resort, and 32 BHYC members shared cocktails followed by dinner at the Ironwood Grille at the PGA Resort. Good fellowship and good repasts were enjoyed by all. We look forward to next year’s Winter Reunion, rumored to be in Key West.”
Last week also saw a first as a midwinter board meeting was held in Florida with board members and committee chairmen from all over the country participating by telephonic and video connection. Commodore Krow reports good attendance and healthy discussions.
The building Engineering Committee under Chairman PC Neil Newton has met yet again and plans are rapidly developing for a report on the revised master plan.
The Lobster Run Committee under the Chairmanship of PC John Chapman has begun its organizational work leading up to this summers event. Bob Scribner, himself a Lobster Run Competitor, is leading team to direct the onwater race itself and to promote participation by offshore sailors.
Next month we will have a gathering back home in Maine at the home of Howard and Dee Wright who started the winter series many years ago.
