Spruce Mountain takes down Boothbay
The Spruce Mountain Phoenix (2-2) took advantage of Boothbay’s fouls and the Seahawks’ trouble at the foul line to win at Boothbay Region High School Tuesday night, Dec. 16, 60-50.
The Phoenix were 15 of 22 from the stripe while Boothbay made only eight of 25 free throws. Several of Boothbay’s fouls were on the offensive end.
The Seahawks, now 1-3, led after one quarter, 14-13, but trailed at halftime 29-24. The Phoenix built a double digit lead in the third quarter but Boothbay battled back to within five points in the fourth before the visitors pulled away for the victory.
“That was the best we have played against Spruce in my time as varsity coach,” said coach Dan Hallinan. “Our foul shooting was horrendous … cost us the game, unfortunately.”
Simeon Bates led Boothbay with 14 points, followed by Chase Licursi with 13 and Harry Hinckley with 10.
Dylan Jewett had 19 points to lead Spruce Mountain, followed by Owen Kelvey with 14 and Hunter Buote with 10.
The Seahawks are next scheduled to play at Richmond (0-4) on Friday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
