A battle between the top two field hockey teams in Class C South went the home team’s way as the Spruce Mountain Phoenix edged the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 2-1, in Jay Wednesday, Sept. 16. Both teams were 3-0 going into the game.

Quinn Johnson and Maddie Grimaldi scored the Phoenix goals while Moriah Smith scored for Boothbay.

Goalies kept the game close as Spruce Mountain’s Kyleigh Marcotte had 16 saves and Boothbay’s Abigail Locke-Smith had 14 saves.

Next up for the Seahawks is a game in Rumford against the Mountain Valley Falcons (4-0, second place in Class C North) on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
