Southport selectmen pass on attending upcoming municipal events
Southport officials were invited to two upcoming municipal events, but have no interest in attending either. The first event is the state Office of Cannabis Policy's invitation to attend the Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties Roundtable Sept. 25 in Bath. The event is designed for municipal officials and employees. "It will offer a valuable opportunity to connect directly with OCP staff, ask questions, troubleshoot local concerns and gain insights into managing both medicinal use and adult use of cannabis at the municipal level," wrote Stakeholder Engagement Associate Manuel Giron.
During the Sept. 10 meeting, all three selectmen had no interest in attending. Each Lincoln and Sagadahoc town is allowed two representatives.
Maine Municipal Association is holding its annual convention Oct. 8 and 9 in Bangor. Selectmen received the invitation and, again, none of the three volunteered to attend.
In other business, selectmen approved four town hall rental requests. Conrad and Lori Dana received approval for a wedding reception for July 10, 11 and 12 next summer. Nicole and Jim Main of Boothbay Harbor received a rental approval for Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a "Friendsgiving" celebration. Caitlin Shepherd received approval to hold an Oct. 10 craft party. Debra Hallinan received approval to hold an Oct. 19 baby shower.
Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 in the town hall.
