Southport selectmen discuss MMA insurance email
Southport selectmen held an executive session Aug. 27 to discuss a Maine Municipal Association communication.
The Boothbay Register requested a copy of the MMA email without immediate success. "Not now. I want to discuss it first with the board," Gamage said.
Aug. 29, Gamage reported the executive session was a personnel matter and "the issue was resolved."
In other action, the municipal website will begin displaying regularly updated information. Selectmen agreed to hire Ashlea Tibbetts to regularly update the website. Tibbetts will be paid a yet-to-be-determined hourly wage and perform her duties from home.
Selectmen approved four town hall rental requests. Two were from Southport Island Association along with requests for a birthday party and baby shower. On Oct. 31, the SIA will host a Halloween party. On Sept. 11, the SIA will host a guest speaker. On Sept. 7, Eden Climo will host a birthday party. On Oct. 18, Stephanie Hawke will host a baby shower.
Selectmen received a letter from Richard Gray on behalf of The (Boothbay) Community Center. Gray requested the town send the $4,000 contribution approved by voters during the March town meeting.
Southport is applying for a $75,000 Community Action Grant to support ongoing climate resilience planning, implementation and developing the Southport Resilience Network. In addition, funds would pay for establishing a reverse 911 early warning communication system and a platform for neighbors to support one another during emergency events. The grant deadline is Aug. 29.
Lincoln County sent Southport's tax commitment, which is $1,041,947. Gamage said it was $88,000 more than last year.
Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 in the town hall.
