Time seems to keep flying by at SYC this year as we are through yet another week of this wonderful summer!

We had three swimmers brave the cold cozy harbor waters, Casey Boudrow, Violet Fauver and Annabelle Fauver, all passed their swim test.

The morning class had quite an eventful week with a handful of cruises, working on mooring landings and for a Friday fun day, the instructors took out the kids in 420s, where they raced and had a blast.

The afternoon Turnabout program had a week filled with cruises to places such as Reid State Park, Five Islands and the Roundhouse, while also working on solo sailing skills such as mooring landings.

The afternoon Opti program took part in their final race days for the August series and took part in a cruise to Five Islands and ended off the week with a swim in the harbor.

The afternoon 420 program held two race days, and an activity on Friday that many would consider a “Wild Goose Chase” where they had to swim to the 420 dock from the Junior Dock and then rig their boat and sail it around the Red Nun, Cedarbush Island, and other miscellaneous locations.

There were many extracurricular events this week outside of sailing, the first being the Tuesday Night sibling regatta, where all of the boats must be sailed by a pair of siblings. The Turley brothers eventually came out victorious. Shortly after the sibling Regatta, there was a spikeball tournament, which was won by Nathan Phippen and Liam Donahue, who didn’t win a single match by less than four in the double elimination style tournament.

On Thursday, the club held its annual prize bingo, where stores from around the community donate bingo prizes so the event can be ran for the club. Thank you very much to all of the stores who participated or donated!

We are unfortunately looking into our final week of sailing, where we will look forward to decommissioning and the banquet on Friday night!
