SOS from St. Andrews Auxiliary Thrift Shop: We need winter clothing donations
It’s that time of year when we have switched out our closet, moving the summer clothes to another closet or bins and filling the coat racks with our vests, scarves, and assortment of outerwear from rain-proof light jackets to 10-pound, down-filled, hooded coats of varying lengths. Yes, it is that time when we say to ourselves, “How did I end up with three black vests?” “Boy that sweater really shrank,” and “What was I thinking when I got this in one size too small for me just because it was such a deal at the Bean outlet?” In other words, we have changed seasons and assessed our collection of winter garb. Most of us just cram them back in the closet and know we will be adding even more items as something catches our fancy.
The volunteers at the St. Andrews Thrift Store have a suggestion/request for you. As you start to assess your exquisite, carefully (or maybe not so carefully) composed compilation of winter wear, please start and keep adding to a pile that you will bring to us so that we may find a new owner for your much loved, but maybe ready to let go of, winter clothes.
Seriously, this season we are seeing an unprecedented purchase of winter clothing, especially coats—from hoodies and light jackets through coats of all weights and lengths. This new trend says two things, the quality of items you bring us is amazing, and we are so pleased to then resell them at very affordable prices, Second, the need for outerwear is as critical as it has ever been.
So please, go take another look at those sweaters, pants, gloves, and, especially, coats you have now brought out of hiding and ask yourself, “Am I really going to wear that this season or ever again?” Because we promise you, someone else totally will.
Thank all of you for your continuing donations to our Thrift Shop. Our mission is to provide a store where anyone can find affordable clothing, household items, and treasures. And those purchases allow the St. Andrews Auxiliary to support student scholarships and vital medical purchases for our local healthcare facilities. Donations of gently worn winter clothing are now accepted during store hours by simply coming in and handing them to any volunteer.Pass it on—we promise you will feel great and someone will be so grateful.
