Sewer district moves forward with Roads End project
Sept. 2, Operator-in-Charge Chris Higgins presented Boothbay Harbor Sewer District (BHSD) trustees with the final drawing from surveyor Nick Plumer to establish the right of way on Roads End in Boothbay Harbor.
BHSD has been trying to ascertain this information so it can move its electrical control panel closer to its sanitary wet well. The district will meet with Central Maine Power (CMP) to see if the district can use the company’s pole to connect to the new panel. It is unclear whether the neighboring property owned by David Bean or Bruce Engert would be best for the panel to be placed on.
“It really is based on what CMP tells us we can or can't do on that pole,” said Higgins.
In other business, the district is working on filling its superintendent job. However, due to difficulty finding qualified personnel, the trustees are also looking into hiring an organization that operates wastewater treatment facilities. A Request for Proposals (RPF) is being drafted, which outlines the requirements BHSD would place on the contracted company, explained Clerk Russell Hoffman.
Trustees also reviewed the district’s financial report for August. BHSD’s year-to-date financials (Jan. 1– Aug. 31) show they are about $46,000 under budget, according to a meeting handout. This revenue may be made up as the seasonal billings don't go out until November, and there is another commercial bill cycle before the end of the year, said Higgins.
As previously reported in the Register, BHSD got a site plan review and shoreland zoning permit for several electrical projects approved by the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board.
