Seahawks down Falcons, now 6-1-1
For the second time this week, the Boothbay Region Seahawks defeated the Mountain Valley Falcons, this time at home, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27.
The win improved the Seahawks’ record to 6-1-1 while Mountain Valley dropped to 2-6.
The game was evenly matched the first half but Boothbay took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter with a goal by Lilly Cowing at the 6:26 mark.
Boothbay’s tough defense kept the Falcons from mounting many offensive opportunities in the third quarter, while the Seahawks went up 2-0 on a goal by Moriah Smith on an assist from Natalie Flagg.
However, the Falcons didn’t quit and put pressure on Boothbay’s defense in the fourth quarter. A goal by Melina Byam at the 6:30 mark cut Boothbay’s lead in half and the Falcons managed several penalty corners in the final minutes but failed to connect on a tying goal.
Boothbay had 11 shots on goal, three penalty corners and goalie Sophie White had three saves.
Mountain Valley had six shots on goal, 13 penalty corners and goalie Emma Williamson had eight saves.
Boothbay travels to Oak Hill on Tuesday and to Winthrop on Wednesday.
