Scott E. Atkinson
Scott E. Atkinson, 70, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 17, 2026.
He was born in Winchester, Massachusetts to Ralph M. and Nancy W. Atkinson, where he grew up with his brother and sister, graduating from Winchester High School. Scott graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor of science (civil engineering) in 1977 and went on to obtain his professional engineering license. He was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Perhaps sometimes a little too active; he loved his brothers.
Scott loved Maine. He grew up visiting his grandparents and cousins during the holidays in the Portland area and at the family summer cottages in West Boothbay Harbor. There was nothing Scott enjoyed more than being on a boat, working on the cottages or spending time with summertime friends and family.
L.L. Bean was a family more than a place of employment to Scott. He earned his MBA, enjoyed “Wilderness Days” on the Allagash River and hunting in Rangeley; benefits from L.L. Bean. Scott made lifelong friends at L.L. Bean. He was the manager of Retail Store Planning, building new stores, renovations and corporate facilities. Scott retired after almost 30 years.
Scott met the love of his life, his wife Meredith in 1986 and they spent 39 wonderful years together.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Christopher W. Atkinson. Scott is survived by Meredith M. Atkinson, his sister, Sydney E. Atkinson and many cousins.
The funeral is planned for 2 p.m. on Jan. 31 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 580 Forest Avenue in Portland.
