Salute to the Seahawks
Congratulations to the Boothbay Region High School fall sports teams.
The field hockey team finished their spectacular regular season 11-1-2 and placed first in Class C South. Their first playoff game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29 at home against Traip Academy at 3:30 p.m. Should they win that game, they are scheduled to play at home on Saturday, Nov. 1 (weather permitting, time to be announced) against the winner of the Winthrop/Hall-Dale game. Coaches Jax Hepburn, Taylor Walby and Emma van der Veen have molded this young team into winners.
The Seahawk cross country teams, boys and girls, qualified for the State Meet on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Cony High School in Augusta. Despite losing a top runner in Karen Higgins this season, who transferred to Lincoln Academy, the girls team has done a remarkable job and the boys team stepped it up at the regional meet to qualify.
Coach Ed Crocker and his assistants have done a fine job with the football team, especially with all the injuries suffered by the players this season. He has made the right decision not to play the playoff game against Old Orchard Beach because of those injuries. The OOB Seagulls defeated Boothbay on Sherman Field, 60-0, during the season and pitting the powerhouse team against the Seahawks might result in injuries to players who plan on playing winter sports.
Cheer team coaches Michele (Barter) Ripley and Mady McLellan have put together a great group of girls who not only cheer at games but have tutored young girls at clinics this fall, done fundraising and more.
Nice seasons, Seahawks!
