A raw deal

Mon, 03/11/2024 - 4:30pm

    Dear Editor:

Do you think we should spend $30 million for Elementary School additions/renovations for our children? Well - think again. The largest growing segment of the school population is students from "Other Towns" which has grown a whopping 70% in four years.

Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor will be picking up 100% of the capital costs while those '"Other Towns" won't pay a cent towards construction costs.

We were led to believe that those "Other Towns" paid tuition but ... wait ... we learned this week that, for the past three years on average, the Superintendent made agreements for 22 students from "Other Towns" to attend our schools for free. (This is a loss of $300K++ of revenue per year.).

Once again, we are shouldering the bulk of the educational burden for the region. This is a raw deal and a slap in the face for Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor taxpayers.

    Vote No on April 24.
