Project Graduation, fans benefit most at Alumni game
Ed Crocker and Korey Lewis, the two oldest ballers from the class of 1994, did show up again and the Boothbay Region High School Alumni basketball game on Saturday, March 28 was a fun show for the benefit of the 2026 Project Graduation trip.
The skills were still there for many of the players but having a good time with others, whether on the blue team or the gold team, was what it was all about.
Both teams were cheered on by the alumna cheerleaders, Christian Jewett, Michele Ripley, Megan Donaldson, Angela Percival and Bailey Lewis, and later joined by senior Chloe Joneth.
With the scoreboard jumping up in major points depending on donations to Project Graduation, no one really kept score but the Project Graduation committee was pleased with the outcome.
Crocker, a member of the blue team, was joined by Braden Davis, Luke Morley, Kaleb Ames, Deakon Wilson-Harrington, Nick Morley, Sam Burnham, Austin Campbell, Julian Aponte and Ali Hartley, who was named MVP for the team. Captains of the blue team were BRHS seniors Harry Hinckley and Spencer Wood.
Lewis, named MVP for the gold team, was joined by Eddie Carpenter, Finn Harkins, Zach Rollins, Hunter Crocker, Chloe Arsenault, Faith Blethen, Kyle Ames, Nick Simpson, Evan Hepburn and Ryan Murphy. Captains of the gold team were Tatum French and Griffin Yereance.
The defense showed up some – especially near the basket – while several players were left alone outside the arc and tried their best for a 3-pointer. Some of the memorable deep ones by Ali Hartley and Faith Blethen sliced through the net.
A couple of fun technical fouls were called by officials Dennis Dacus and Will Sledge and recognized on the public address system by senior Sarah Harris. Helping to keep track of donations was Maddie Andreasen and running the clock was senior Sophie White.
The hour-long game ended with the gold team being declared the winner – despite the scoreboard showing a 195-195 score.
The senior class presented Seahawk blankets and stuffed trolls to the participating players after the gold ball was hoisted by gold’s Nick Simpson and Finn Harkins.
Did anyone count how many times Ed Crocker fell to the court? Sorry, that didn’t end up on the stat sheet!
