Paul B. Adams, 99, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away on April 9, 2024 at Lincoln Health – Miles Campus in Damariscotta.

Paul was born on March 7, 1925 in Fall River, Massachusetts to parents Arthur M. and Madeline B. (Harrington) Adams. 

Paul grew up in Boothbay Harbor and attended East Boothbay schools through the 10th grade, where he then transferred to and graduated from the Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville. After high school, Paul attended Colby College for a year before joining the United States Navy in July of 1943 as a Radio Tech 2nd Class. He served in the Navy until January of 1946 and then entered the Naval Reserves and retired as Lt. Commander after 28 years.  

After the Navy, Paul went back to school at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a bachelor’s degree in forestry. 

He then worked at the Southern Pacific Railroad for 17 years. In 1965, Paul got into insurance at the Mutual Service Insurance, which later became Adams & Parker Insurance. He retired from there in 1985.  

In his free time, Paul enjoyed camping, hunting, and antique cars. He was also a member of the Elks, American Legion, Masons, and the Holland Club. He received titles and awards such as Exalted Ruler at the Elks Lodge Walnut Creek, California and the Bath Elks. He was Piggy Bank Chairman at the California Hawaii Elks Association, the Elks Maine State President, and the District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for Maine. 

Paul was predeceased by his wife Edna Rebecca Adams; a son Thomas Adams; four brothers; daughter-in-law Arlene Adams; and longtime partner Lucy Marlowe.  

He is survived by his daughter Joanne Kanes and husband Ray of Napa, California; son Mahlon (Mike) Adams and wife Cindy of Walnut Bottom, Pennsylvania; daughter Judith (Judi) Vance and husband William of Wilmington, North Carolina; sister Virginia Beebe of Boston, Massachusetts; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and companion Nancy Coleman of Boothbay.  

A memorial service for Paul will be held in the summer of 2025 at a later date to be announced.
