‘Our Hometown Holiday ...’ winter concert presented by Southport Central School
The 16 students at Southport Central School, their teachers and administrators celebrated the holidays and the island’s special spots during their winter concert, “Our Hometown Holiday …” Wednesday night, Dec. 18 at the Southport Town Hall – a week after the concert was postponed due to weather.
Under the direction and accompaniment of music and art teacher Jennifer McIvor with technical assistance by Meredith Fowlie, the performance included eight musical numbers and readings about the island’s well-known gathering locations done by the fifth and sixth graders. The 45-minute concert concluded with the traditional singalong of well-known songs, “Deck The Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
The fifth and sixth graders, Jonah Fessenden, Duncan Scott, Ryder Baker, Aurora Wallace and Shepherd Griffith, played instruments on three of the songs.
Other students performing in the concert included: kindergarten and first graders Jeremiah Carroll, Angus Kaler, Eloise Hawke, Kiana Lee; and second and third graders Lily Billings, Owen Fessenden, Theo Kurtz, Brock Wallace, Cairine Blackman Morehouse, Rivers Healy and Aiden Nunen.
To open the concert, SCS Principal Lisa Clarke thanked Garry Blackman and other member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge for donating the sound system.
