Ocean Point Column: Special porch party on Friday
After some much needed rain last week we experienced several days of beautiful weather, albeit hot.
Many thanks to all who hosted or chaired an event last week. Mary Rush and her crew whipped up some delicious pancakes bright and early on a recent Saturday morning. Many thanks to her and the kitchen staff, Roger Imhof, Ciara Rush, Will Bertrand, Dani McGonegal and Amy Imhof and, of course, the very capable waitstaff.
Thank you to Amy Imhof for organizing the kids game of Left, Right, Center last Tuesday and to Carrie Newell and Abby and Tim Mahoney for taking the lead in providing Summerween.
Mark and Cara Pond were responsible for the delicious burgers and hot dogs after the ball game this past Sunday. A big thank you to them.
Thanks to the generosity of Mitch Weiss, the Casino is now well stocked with some much needed paper goods for our events.
This week’s events include the Grimes Cove Picnic Monday evening at 6 and dance lessons with the Landurands will continue that same night at 7 and every Monday night until the end of the month.
If trivia is your interest then plan on attending the Adult Trivia Tuesday, Aug. 11 beginning at 7 p.m.
Of note to parents -- the read aloud on Wednesday is canceled this week. However, China McHold will be presenting a stress reduction program Wednesday at 7 p.m. for those ages 10 and up.
The second book club of the season will take place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and participants will be discussing “Kin” by Tayari Jones. Bring your own beverage and an appetizer or dessert to share.
Our porch parties are always enjoyable with great conversation and, of course, yummy food but this Friday’s party, Aug. 14, will have a bit of a different vibe as we will be saying farewell to Jack and Georgia Chambers. After 25 years summering at Ocean Point they have decided to sell their home and sadly will be leaving us at the end of this month. Please come and help celebrate their many years as Ocean Pointers and wish them well on their new journey. Bring your favorite beverage and an appetizer to share.
The annual meeting of the Ocean Point Colony Trust will take place on Saturday morning, Aug. 15 beginning at 9:30.
The Rev. Virginia Rickeman, United Church of Christ(ret.), Edgecomb, will conduct Sunday Services Aug. 16 at Wilson Memorial Chapel at 9:30; all are welcome.
Once again Riptide Services presents the Italian Night on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6 and features antipasto, salad, and a selection of pastas with meats all made by the very talented chef Kelly Farrin of the Carriage House. Gabe and Mary’s famous brownies will be served for dessert. Gluten free options are available upon request and tickets for the event can be purchased on the OPCT website; bring your beverage of choice.
It’s hard to believe that our summer activities are coming to an end as Tim and Abby Mahoney’s last day will be Friday, Aug. 21. Thank you to both of them for another amazing job this summer.
I am very sad and appalled to report that sometime last Wednesday night the flowers at the chapel went missing. It’s unthinkable and very disheartening to imagine someone would do such a thing. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact one of the chapel’s officers.
On a happier note, congratulations to Bob and Christine McCarthy who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June with their children Jane, Peter and Laura and their families. Bob and Christine first came to Ocean Point on their honeymoon and enjoy vacationing at their home each summer.
Have a great week!
