Activity here at the Point has slowed down almost to a snail’s pace.

Despite the slow down many residents are here enjoying the weather until water shut off begins Thursday, Oct. 15.

Once again I’d like to thank the BRWD for all of their efforts in hooking us up in the spring, servicing us throughout the season and all of the effort it takes to shut down and drain the system.

Many enjoyed the last porch party of the season at the home of Peter and Patty Smith Gardner. The party has become an annual event and again this year served as a fundraiser for the Community Resource Council in the form of an auction. Many attendees brought home made items to include in the event.

State Representative and Director of Operations for the CRC, Holly Stover, was also in attendance and spoke not only of the importance of the organization but of the many services it provides. Thank you Peter and Patty for a wonderful and worthwhile gathering.

Ocean Point resident Tom Cotter, known as the Barn Find Hunter, was recently a guest on the Maine Public Radio program,”Maine Calling.” Tom is the host of a show on You Tube and enjoys digging through barns and garages to find old automotive treasures.

Congratulations to Richard and Ann Hussey Hogaboom on the birth of their first grandchild, Emilia Ann, born Sept. 11 to Brendan and Lauren Hogaboom. Emilia is now a sixth generation family member at Ocean Point.

Ann would like to remind everyone that she will once again chair the Attic Treasure Sale next July. As you leave and begin to settle in to winter please set aside your “treasurers” to bring back next spring.

The Ocean Point community was saddened to hear of the passing of John “Johnny” King. John died Sept. 3 in Richmond, Virginia.

John grew up summering at Ocean Point with his family Mary and Linn King and his brothers Frank and Dennis.

John was a kind and compassionate man with many and varied interests which included: computer programming, dogs, music, Ocean Point history and helping others. John was a long-time member of the local Woodchucks and assisted Kitty Anangnost in her book on the history of Ocean Point cottages.

John was also a faithful attendee of the Sunday Services at the Wilson Memorial Chapel.

John will be missed by the Ocean Point community and especially his children, John, Jim, Jeff, Joseph, Jerry, Jenni and Jay; his eight grandchildren and his brother Frank. A celebration of John’s life will be held next summer.
