Oak Hill boys topple Boothbay, 60-53, in MVC basketball action
Boothbay's Chase Licursi started the game off with a baseline 3-pointer Dec. 29 against Mountain Valley Conference rival Oak Hill, igniting a 13-3 Seahawk run, but it didn't take long for the Raiders to climb back into the contest. Oak Hill went on a run of its own, scoring 14 straight points, to take a 17-13 lead.
At the end of the first quarter, Boothbay lead 21-20, but in the end, the Raiders won, 60-53. Boothbay falls to 2-5. Oak Hill improves 2-4.
It was a game in which Boothbay had control, but a few costly minutes ended up leaving the Seahawks in the loss column. Coach Dan Hallinan said his team had control for about 26 minutes, but at the end of the third quarter mental errors hurt the Seahawks. "We controlled the game for most of it. At the end of the third, we turned the ball over, didn't get back on defense, and I thought the self-inflicted stuff really cost us," Hallinan said.
For Oak Hill, the team is senior-laden which plays a fast, aggressive-style and typical of a team susceptible to large swings on the scoreboard. "They have good chemistry and play well together. They get up and down the court and they took advantage of us missing a lot of layups," he said.
Boothbay's leading scorer was Ethan Clark with 13 points and he connected on three 3-pointers. Other Seahawk scorers were Simeon Bates with 10. Chase Licursi with nine, Alex Ross with seven (one 3-pointer), Peyton Barter and Harry Hinckley with six each, and Aiden Locke with two.
Boothbay hosts Hall-Dale (5-0) at 6 p.m. Jan. 2.
