Legendary folk musician Noel Paul Stookey, best known as one-third of the iconic trio Peter, Paul and Mary, will take the stage at the Camden Opera House on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. with his daughter, poet A.S. Aubrey, for "Listening for the Notes: The Gift of Word & Song in Challenging Times."
The father-daughter collaboration blends beloved songs, original poetry, storytelling, and conversation into an intimate evening exploring inspiration, resilience, and the ways music and language help us make sense of an ever-changing world. Through humor, warmth, and heartfelt reflection, Stookey and Aubrey invite audiences to consider how listening—to one another, and to the world around us—can foster hope and deeper connection.
The program features timeless songs that have inspired generations, including "Blowin' in the Wind," "Puff, the Magic Dragon," and Stookey's enduring classic "The Wedding Song." Aubrey's original poetry complements the music, creating a thoughtful dialogue between father and daughter that reflects on creativity, family, purpose, and the search for meaning. The Ventura County Reporter described the performance as "so uplifting and inviting that you felt you had been welcomed into the Stookeys' living room to listen as they swapped poems, songs and stories...an inspiring night."
As a special bonus, every audience member will receive a complimentary copy of Aubrey's forthcoming poetry chapbook, 'Hide & Seek: Poems for Being Found in a Lost World." Included in the ticket price, the book will be mailed to attendees following its Thanksgiving 2026 publication by Finishing Line Press.
Named by presidential inaugural poet Richard Blanco as a collection that "exemplifies what poetry does best," 'Hide & Seek' explores themes of mortality, hope, purpose, and renewal through what Blanco describes as Aubrey's "rapturous lyricism." The collection reminds readers that even amid uncertainty, there is beauty to be found in paying close attention to the world and to one another.
Stookey has spent more than 60 years sharing music that has become woven into the fabric of American folk history. As a member of Peter, Paul and Mary, he helped define the folk revival of the 1960s with songs that championed peace, justice, and social change. In this collaborative performance with Aubrey, audiences will experience a more personal side of the celebrated musician while discovering a compelling new poetic voice.
