A concert starring Grammy-winning violinist Jennifer Koh will highlight the final week of this year’s Salt Bay Chamberfest (SBC), an annual chamber music festival centered in Damariscotta. The 2022 season, called “Illuminations,” will come to a grand conclusion with this sparkling performance on Friday, Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater (2 Theater St.). In addition, free events for the community will take place Aug. 18, 19 and 20.

On Friday, Aug. 19, Koh will perform a multimedia work by Missy Mazzoli, one of the composers featured on Koh’s album “Alone Together,” which won the 2022 Grammy for “Best Classical Instrumental Solo.” The violinist will also play chamber works by Schubert and Schumann.

Recognized for intense, commanding performances delivered with dazzling virtuosity and technical assurance, Koh was chosen Musical America’s 2016 Instrumentalist of the Year, recognized as a Virtuoso Award honoree by Concert Artists Guild in 2020, and hailed as “A Force of Nature” by the American Composers Orchestra in 2019. She was a top prizewinner at Moscow’s International Tchaikovsky Competition, winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, and a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. She will be joined on stage by cellist Wilhelmina Smith, pianist Thomas Sauer, and violist Carla Maria Rodrigues.

Koh will also perform a free solo recital in Rockland on Thursday, Aug. 18 at noon at the Strand Theatre at 345 Main Street.

In addition, SBC is presenting two other free events next week. Taking place at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta, they are a violin master class featuring coaching by violist Carla Maria Rodrigues on Friday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m.; and a family concert on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 10:30 a.m. The family concert - a child-oriented musical performance designed for the enjoyment of all ages - will be hosted by violinist Serena Canin of the Brentano String Quartet. It will also feature cellist Wilhelmina Smith, pianist Thomas Sauer, and violist Carla Maria Rodrigues, along with Jennifer Koh.

SBC requires masks to be worn at all events. Information about all events can be found at www.saltbaychamberfest.org.
