Meet the kids of the Osprey Program
Here at Boothbay Region Land Trust we are very proud of the variety of programs we offer, led by our Environmental Educator Tracey Hall. For over a decade we have provided free educational events to all ages of the public. Through the BRLT Osprey Program, Tracey connects with community youth each week at the YMCA, as well as local schools. Without the tremendous support of our members, these programs could not be maintained. We want to thank everyone who has supported Boothbay Region Land Trust and introduce you to some of the children that have benefitted from your generous contributions.
Tracey (known as “Turtle” to the kids) asked each child at YMCA FitKids his or her favorite part of the program. Please enjoy their unedited responses below.
Will Sledge: I like to go outside.
Alex Hiel: Watching people fall in mud puddles.
Madison Nichols: I like when we went to Penny Lake Preserve for frog hunting and I had to walk half way there by myself and got stuck in the mud and then we went all the way back to the YMCA. The end.
Margret Sledge: My favorite hike was when we built forts. I built my fort with Penda, Grace, Rose and Maddy.
Neal Baldwin: I liked playing flash flood.
Gavin Carlson: When I fell in the mud puddle.
Rafael Goldhirsch: I like to walk in the woods and see animals and trees.
Luca Bowden: Seeing nature.
Sam Macy: Hiking with turtle.
Madelyn Teele: I like sliding on the ice with my friend Dee in the winter. Sometimes we get stuck in the mud! One time my friend Dee got stuck in the mud and I tried to help her and then I got stuck in the mud! Then my other friend Camden helped us get out of the mud!
Depalesa Molai: I like when I was walking in the woods with my sneakers and my foot got stuck in the mud and Madelyn tried to help me out and then Madelyn’s foot got stuck in the mud and then Camden had to help us both out. That was my best moment.
Gryffin Kristan: The games are one of my favorite things with Turtle. I enjoy making forts. Sometimes I don’t have 1 hour of exercise and I go on hikes and get more exercise.
Penda Jones: I like being on adventures and just enjoying fresh air and seeing Turtle. I love hiking!
Dylan Plummer: When I play in the snow.
Angelina Pairiotti: I like sliding on the ice.
As you can see, the children enjoy themselves immensely, particularly in the mud! With today’s growing technology, it is easy to become disconnected from our beautiful surroundings. The goal of the Osprey Program is to get children outside, connect them with nature, and instill a true love of the outdoors.
