Lisbon tops Boothbay, 2-1, in OT in MVC title game
The Lisbon Greyhounds defeated the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 2-1, in overtime to win the 2025 Mountain Valley Conference field hockey championship on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 23 in Winthrop.
The annual MVC title game pits the two top teams in the conference based on their regular season records. Both teams finished the regular season at 11-1-2 and await the Maine Principals Association Class C South tournament which starts next week. Boothbay is ranked first in the division and will host Traip Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. Lisbon is ranked second and will host Sacopee Valley.
Thursday’s game was scoreless at the half. Boothbay scored first when Natalie Flagg tipped in a pass from Olivia Hardwick at 13:16 of the third quarter.
The Greyhounds tied the game at 10:40 of the fourth quarter and a second goal was nullified on an infraction. Aubriana Bright scored the Lisbon goal.
The eight-minute overtime period saw both teams have chances to win in sudden victory but it was Alivia Saunders’ goal at 4:35 which gave Lisbon the win.
Lisbon had 12 shots on goal and 20 penalty corners. Boothbay had four shots on goal and four penalty corners.
Boothbay goalie Jess Steinmetz had seven saves, as did Lisbon goalie Sophia Cote.
