Leave the dams
Dear Editor:
The Nature Conservancy does not own our energy, our jobs, our very way of life. Maine Democrats passed the sale and purchase of land and four hydroelectric dams, which not only produce valuable electricity but also provide milling energy for at least 450 good-paying, longtime existing jobs.
Environmentalists claim spawning wild fish are being restricted by the dams, not allowing their natural flowing passage. This accusation is unfounded and greatly exaggerated. Recorded data from surveys and research, show an up to 90% passage of migrating fish species in some areas. The Sappi Somerset Mill is a thriving benefit to the Kennebec River and to Maine. They call it Planet-Janet for a reason. Solar and wind produce nothing compared to hydroelectric. It’s there, it works, leave it alone.
Digging up these dams will bring serious flooding and other damage to a spot countless wattage of clean energy already exist.
Do not allow this illicit, fairytale world political party to ruin your lives.
