LCHA presents 'Shades of the Past'
Brave and curious lovers of local history are invited by Lincoln County Historical Association to experience a new event, "Shades of the Past," at the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden. Special evening tours, offered on the hour, beginning at 4 p.m. on the evenings on Oct. 24 and 25 only, will highlight some of the spookier aspects of the building’s rich history.
Visitors will be led through key rooms within the Court House as gifted storytellers bring history alive with seasonal stories. They will then proceed to the courthouse cemetery as guides share more legends and ghost stories long associated with the property.
Shades of the Past is designed to be fun, entertaining, and informative, but the event also serves an important purpose: to raise funds to support the stewardship of this historic gem. Proceeds will go toward the cost of replacing the UV protective shades on the Court House windows, which are desperately needed to safeguard its historic interior and contents from harmful UV damage.
Tickets are required for this spirited event and are priced at $20 each. Tours last about an hour, and begin at 4, 5, 6, and 7 pm. Ticket holders are asked to wear comfortable and sturdy closed-toed shoes as the tour involves walking over uneven ground in the dark and to bring a flashlight or battery-operated torch (no gas lanterns).
