Great claws for a cause

Tue, 07/12/2022 - 8:45am

It does not get more Maine than this: twin lobsters, chowder, clams or mussels, corn, blueberry pie, “Four good claws” ale and Tim Sample at Brady’s in Boothbay Harbor – all to benefit Maine Lobsterman’s Association defense fund. The event is Aug. 7 from 3 to 6 p.m.

NewsCenter co-host Sharon Rose will emcee the evening, called “Lobster, libations and laughs.”

Advance sale tickets are $100 and going quickly, according to Brady’s owner Jen Mitchell. During the evening, there will be a surprise presentation by Atlantic Edge Lobster and an auction including a lobster trip for six from Clive Farrin. A non-lobster option is available for dinner.

Proceeds from the evening will go to the defense fund and will help with costs of MLA’s lawsuit against the National Marine Fisheries Service and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for their plan to require a 98% cut in the risk to right whales by 2030. MLA, represented by Stoel Rives, is challenging the plan in court.

The idea for the fundraiser came from a conversation between Mitchell and Boothbay lobsterman Plummer about a month ago.

Among those donating their time, efforts and resources to the event are Brady’s, MLA, Sample and Rose. Contributions may be made in advance at Brady’s and should be made out to: MLA Defense Fund.
