Courtesy of FNBFirst National Bank is proud to announce a $50,000 contribution to Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library’s Next 100 Capital Campaign, supporting the library’s work to preserve its historic role in the Boothbay region while expanding access, safety, and community resources for the future.
In recognition of the gift, First National Bank will be honored on an outdoor chess table and recognized as a sponsor of the library’s chess club, creating a lasting connection between the bank’s support and a welcoming space for learning, strategy, and community connection.
The Next 100 Capital Campaign is focused on helping Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library plan for its next century of service. Since 1924, the library has served the Boothbay region from the former Chapman-Reed residence, and the campaign supports improvements designed to create a restored, safe, and accessible space for learning, connection, and community use.
“Libraries are at the heart of strong communities,” shared Marcia Benner, executive vice president, chief administrative officer of First National Bank. “Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library has been a place where generations have gathered to learn, dream, connect and grow.”
The outdoor chess table will provide a visible, interactive gathering place where community members can connect, learn, and enjoy the library grounds. The library’s chess club is a drop-in program open to all ages and skill levels, with outdoor meetings during good summer weather.
“First National Bank’s generous support is helping us create spaces that bring people together in meaningful ways,” said Joanna Breen, Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library’s executive director. “The outdoor chess table and chess club sponsorship are wonderful examples of how this campaign is not only preserving the library’s history, but also expanding the ways people can learn, gather, and connect.”
Campaign priorities include accessibility improvements, expanded children’s library and activity space, community event areas, technology resources, small meeting rooms, and restoration of historic spaces.
The contribution reflects First National Bank’s ongoing commitment to investing in local organizations that strengthen Maine communities. Through its support of the Next 100 Capital Campaign, the bank is helping Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library prepare for its next century while creating new opportunities for residents, families, students, and visitors to gather, learn, and dream big.
