Find your inner artist with BRAF’s summer art classes
Whether you are a seasoned artist looking to grow your skills or a total novice convinced you can't draw a straight line, the Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s (BRAF) roster of summer art classes offers something to inspire everyone. From beginning drawing to contemporary printmaking, all are invited to roll up their sleeves and dive into the creative process.
Art in Bloom: Ikebana Workshop - Wednesday, July 1; 1 - 2 p.m. Explore the art of Japanese flower arranging – Ikebana – with National Garden Club Master Accredited Judge Sandra Leonard who will guide participants through the core principles of Ikebana: simplicity, asymmetry, and balance.
Beginning Drawing - July 14, 16, 21 and 23; 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This 4-session workshop is designed for anyone who thinks they can’t draw as well as those looking to sharpen their skills. Instructor Libby Reed introduces concepts that bridge the gap between the logical left brain and the creative right brain. These tools are keystones to all the visual arts, helping students move from merely "observing" the world to truly "discovering" and "inventing."
Abstract Exploration: Aug. 5 & 6; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. All materials will be provided. Journey into the expressive world of abstract painting with acclaimed Maine artist Sarah Wilde. This intensive, two-day workshop is tailored both for artists stepping into abstraction for the first time and experienced painters wanting to dive deeper into their process.
“Selfies!” Self-Portraiture: Aug. 12 & 13; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Utilizing the most reliable and present model available—yourself—instructor Libby Reed challenges students to not only observe their physical likeness but also express personal growth and life changes through portraiture in this two-day workshop.
Gelli Printing Joy: Saturday, Aug. 22; Noon - 4 p.m. Wrap up the summer with a hands-on, playful afternoon of contemporary printmaking. Instructor Daryne Rockett will lead students through the process of creating multi-layered monotypes, landscapes, and botanical prints using Gelli plates. All materials will be supplied.
