Salt Bay Chamberfest’s 32nd season, Music Unearthed, wraps up this weekend with concerts at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta and free events throughout Lincoln County.

On Friday, Aug. 14, a concert titled "Unearthed: Uprooted" features composer and cellist Karen Ouzounian exploring her family’s Anatolian-Armenian and Lebanese roots and the significance of old music in a new world.

Alongside her own compositions, Ouzounian’s meditation on inheritance and the passage of time comes together through the interweaving of French Baroque music with original arrangements of Armenian folk music and the recorded voices of her mother and grandmother.

Ouzounian is joined by violinists Sean Lee and Gabriela Díaz; violist Maiya Papach; bassist Shawn Conley; Lembit Beecher on electronics; and oudist Issam Rafea. This concert takes place at the Lincoln Theater on Friday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

A special “Bach Marathon” on Sunday, Aug. 16, features Grammy-winning violinist Jennifer Koh in a tour-de-force performance of all six of J.S. Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin. The performance begins at 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater. There will be two intermissions with complimentary donuts and coffee.

In addition, numerous free events will take place around Lincoln County this week. Ouzounian gives a lecture/demonstration at Rutherford Library in South Bristol on Wednesday, August 12 at 1pm.

On Thursday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m., SBC presents its annual Kids & Family Concert at the Central Lincoln County YMCA. It’s appropriate for children of all ages, but best enjoyed by those ages four and up. 

On Saturday, August 15 at 1pm, violin virtuoso Sean Lee leads a masterclass with local Maine high school and college students at Skidompha Public Library.

And finally, later the same day on Saturday, August 15, a popular collaboration with Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (CMBG) continues at 4 p.m., featuring a performance by Issam Rafea, oud, and Shawn Conley, bass. Outside Lincoln County, SBC presents Grammy-winning ensemble Sandbox Percussion with composer and steel pannist Andy Akiho on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at Minsky Recital Hall at the University of Maine, Orono. Featuring commentary by members of the group, the concert includes the world premiere of Akiho’s SBC-commissioned work, "Pentalateral I."
