Elaine Eaton McCoy, the creator, owner, and operator of the 51-year-old The Stock Exchange in Manchester, Massachusetts, passed away in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Aug. 9, 2026.

Elaine most recently resided in Pinehurst and Boothbay, Maine. She formerly spent several years in Manchester and Naples, Florida.

Elaine was born Nov. 14, 1939, and for many years lived in Melrose, Massachusetts with father Francis Eaton and mother Helen Colley.

Elaine is survived by husband Robert W McCoy Jr. of Pinehurst and Boothbay and sister Janice Holt of Manchester.

After graduating from Melrose High School in 1957, Elaine worked in the Boston area for many years in the human resources area. In 1975 she started a consignment store in Manchester that sold second hand clothing, furniture, and jewelry. The business was so successful customers came from not only the local area, but also from all over the North Shore of Boston and beyond. It is still in business 51 years later.

Elaine was truly one-of-a-kind, carrying herself with a quiet intelligence and a sophisticated grace that was completely free of pretense. She had a delightfully down-to-earth spirit. Her eye for beauty was a joy to behold. She had the best sense of humor of anyone. She was so very funny and made a lot of people belly laugh. She was incredibly generous and enjoyed helping people who needed assistance. She gave great gifts!

The Stock Exchange showcased her prodigious creative abilities. She was extremely talented at color, design and presentation. That and her people skills made The Stock Exchange very popular. Elaine had a wonderful gift for weaving hopeful optimism into everything she created. She approached everyone she met with genuine interest and a deeply caring heart. More than anything, Elaine simply knew how to love with all her heart. She was a true gem who made the world a better place, and she will be missed so very much.
