Long Branch headlines the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, Aug. 27, along with live music in galleries and pubs, and so much more to entertain visitors. Making a repeat sidewalk performance, the country/bluegrass/rock n’ roll sounds of Nanci Stein, Bill Donovan, and John Fabreau, playing as Long Branch, create the outdoor ambiance for a great evening of active strolling.

Nearby, visitors will find the gorgeous Garden Club of Wiscasset members with their colorful, fresh bouquets for sale. Take one home and help these hard-working community volunteers fund the many civic projects on their roster. And there are more flowers along the sidewalk where, under a tent, paper artist, Joelle Webber, invites visitors to try their hand at making charming paper blossoms. In just a few minutes, Webber will guide crafty hands in creating three-dimensional blooms, repeatable at home. The open-air workshop is free and all materials provided.

When tired of walking, Woodfield Farm’s horse-drawn wagon encourages art-seekers to hop on board for a clomp around the Village. It’s a different way to meander and the excursion will leave riders refreshed and ready for more exploration. Wagon rides are free. 

The Nickels-Sortwell House tours, 121 Main St., are a Village feature during Wiscasset Art Walk evening. Owned and managed by Historic New England, the house museum, built in 1807, embodies the wealth and financial collapse experienced in the area during the early 19th century. Now restored as a magnificent home, the free evening tours are a glimpse into an opulent era that defined Wiscasset’s place in Maine’s architectural preservation history.

Along the evening’s strolling route, galleries are stocked with magnificent art and live music. Sylvan Gallery, 49 Water St., hosts its annual exhibition with award-winning plein air artists, Neal Hughes and Crista Pisano. The exhibit features recent paintings inspired by the artists’ favorite Maine locations and created during plein air competitions throughout the country. Meet the artists, see their work, and listen to jazz guitarist Dave Lawlor.  In Wiscasset Bay Gallery, 75 Main St., enjoy art created by the owners along with their stunning collection of paintings spanning six centuries; Neal Lamb plays 7-string jazz guitar. Maine Art Gallery, 15 Warren St., continues its current exhibitions, "Plein Air: Paint It Maine!" and the dynamic "The Art of Alchemy: Collage and Mixed Media Exploration." In Aekeir Taproom, 111 Main St., Midcoast Consort plays music of various eras on violin, hurdy gurdy, recorder, and fiddle. At 6:30, the music shifts to a song circle of mostly traditional or traditionally-inspired songs. Join the chorus or listen raptly.

Most shops are open and inviting. Eating places are fragrant and beckon with savory good cheer. It’s Wiscasset Art Walk night!
