Coastal Rivers to host basket weaving workshop
Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust will host a full-day basket weaving workshop on Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Denny Conservation and Education Center, located at 12 Round Top Lane in Damariscotta.
Led by Registered Maine Recreational Guide Jes Steele of Wood Thrush Wilderness, the hands-on class is open to all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced weavers. Participants can choose between weaving a classic reed bike basket with durable leather attachment straps or a gathering basket featuring a wooden swing handle and decorative French randing technique.
Steele brings more than thirty years of experience in outdoor and environmental education to the workshop, guiding students step-by-step to ensure everyone completes a functional basket by the end of the session. Attendees should bring water, snacks, and a packed lunch for a thirty-minute mid-day break.
Registration is required in advance through the Coastal Rivers website at coastalrivers.org/events. The registration fee is $120 for Coastal Rivers members and $150 for non-members, which includes all necessary materials and instruction.
