In the fall of 2019, the Coulombe Center for Health Improvement helped convene organizations and individuals who are experts in issues affecting our seniors for the first Changing Aging event, held at the Boothbay Region YMCA. Many organizations were involved in informational booths, seminars and services, including free flu shots and lunch.

This year, due to COVID-19, the event’s planners are partnering with Lincoln County Television on a week’s worth of programming beginning on Monday, Oct. 5 and ending on Friday, Oct. 9. The shows begin at 8 p.m. on LCTV and Boothbay Region TV.

“While we will miss seeing our seniors at the event, and it’s unfortunate that they cannot ask questions in real-time and enjoy the company of their friends, we’re excited about the programming that we are presenting and appreciate LCTV’s willingness to put it all together,’’ said AnniPat McKenney, manager of the Coulombe Center. “We think there’s something for everybody and we hope that people tune in.”

The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Oct. 5 – Healthy Cooking with Karen Kleinkopf and the Farms at the Y program, followed by Don’t Be Scammed, Part 1, with Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett.

Tuesday, Oct. 6 – Tune in to learn about many of the services that are available for seniors through Spectrum Generations.

Wednesday, Oct. 7 – Finishing Strong, with Lori Ann, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, who will discuss the book by the same name and how people can approach end of life with strength and dignity. This will be followed by Don’t Be Scammed, Part 2, with Damariscotta Police Chief Jason Warlick.

Thursday, Oct. 8 – Health Initiatives at the Y with Robin Maginn and Lauren Ober, followed by Ten Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s from the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine.

Friday, Oct. 9 – Your Final Gift, the Importance of Planning Ahead. Join panelists Stephanie Field, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Jason Guest, senior director of Hall Funeral Homes and Melissa Whitt, owner of Whitt Law and Black Harbor Financial, to discuss why it’s so important to plan ahead and the types of things people should do to leave loved ones well-prepared upon their passing.
