BRHS Class of '26 serves Derby Day pancakes
Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) class of 2026 hosted a Derby Day pancake breakfast at Brady’s Restaurant on Saturday, May 3. Donations were accepted in lieu of a set price. Proceeds are earmarked for graduation-related costs, including items like diploma covers, caps and gowns and other day-of expenses. Madeleine Andreasen, class treasurer, reported the event raised $435 toward the class's $10,000 goal.
Guests were encouraged to dine in Kentucky Derby attire, and those with Derby hats were entered into Brady’s eighth annual Derby Hat Contest, with winners receiving Brady’s gift cards. Later that day, Derby festivities continued with more games and prizes and live music from The Work Trucks Band.
Andreasen and fellow students Rose Campbell, Piper Mckane, Ross Gaffney and Nathan Percival waited tables, serving pancakes (plain, blueberry or chocolate chip) and sausages. “We want to get people out, get the class involved and make the community aware that we are raising money for graduation,” said Andreasen. Class President Sarah Harris wrote, “This is a great chance to come together as a class, have fun, and support a great cause. Every bit of participation helps. I’m so grateful to Brady’s for hosting the pancake breakfast – it means a lot to my class and my school. Huge shout out to Maddie (Andreason) for holding down the fort on this one – we couldn’t have done it without her!”
