Boothbay/Wiscasset track & field teams head to MVC championships
Boothbay/Wiscasset track and field teams are headed to the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet on Thursday, May 29 at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield.
During the MVC season, Rose Campbell set a new Boothbay school record in the 100M dash. Karen Higgins set a new Boothbay school record in the 1600M dash. Ross Gaffney qualified for the New Balance National Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the 1600M race walk.
All three are headed to the conference championship meet along with 21 teammates. Thirteen girls and 11 boys' team members qualified.
The male athletes who qualified were Logan Bourne, shot put; AJ Crocker, 800M, 1600M and 3200M; Louie Caidoc, 800M, 1600M and 3200M; Ethan Clark, 800M, Isaac Fanslau, 100M, 200M; and 400M; Ben Gapski, 100M, 110M high hurdle,300M hurdles, long, triple and high jumps and javelin; Aron Geddes, 200M and javelin; Thomas Hennessy, 1,600M; Ross Gaffney, 1600M race walk and 3200M; Jackson Zehm, 1600 race walk; and Lysander LeFevre, javelin.
The female athletes who qualified were Campbell, 100M, 200M and discus; Gabbi Cassidy, high jump; Higgins, 400M, 800M, 1600M, 3200M and long jump; Arabella Hodgdon, 1,600M race walk; Maya Jacobs, 300M hurdles and 400M; Nerla Laventure, 100M, 200M and long jump; Abby Orchard, discus and javelin; Maddie Orchard, 800M, 1,600M, and 400M; Olivia Rittal, 100M, 200M and 400M; Moriah Smith, 100M, 200M and triple jump; Zuri Smith, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin; and Anna Strozier, triple and long jump.
The season's final meet is the State Class C Championship on Saturday, June 7 at Messalonskee High School.
