Boothbay rolls past Ft. Kent in 8-man football
The Boothbay football team traveled six-plus hours north Oct. 17 in pursuit of a road victory in Fort Kent and spent the night a few miles from the Canadian border.
On Oct. 18, the team woke up and played County, an Aroostook County cooperative high school football team. Boothbay returned home later that day with a 48-38 victory. Boothbay improved to 2-4.
The Seahawks rolled to a 36-8 lead at halftime. In the second half, Coach Ed Crocker substituted many of his starters and the County team rallied. County plays in the state's 8-man northern conference with a 1-5 record.
On Boothbay's last possession, quarterback Shawn Gamage ran past the defense with 47 seconds remaining and stopped short of the end zone. Crocker reported Gamage injured his leg.
"We took Shawn out of the game and I'm not sure how badly he is injured," Crocker said. "We will have to wait and see if he's able to play Friday."
Boothbay holds onto the final southern conference playoff spot in fourth place. Boothbay's next opponent is Mt. View of Thorndike. The Mustangs have a 1-6 record including a 51-0 loss to Sacopee Valley last weekend. It is the final home game for seniors Keegan Murray, Hayden Rines, Will Sledge and Griffin Yereance. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Sherman Field.
