The Boothbay Region Lions Club was honored to be a part of the presentation about the former East Boothbay School (now fire department) given by Larry Brown, Tom Nickerson and others last Saturday. Larry and Tom told the history of the building while others shared stories and memories of beloved teachers and schoolyard shenanigans.

As some may not know, in 2019 the Lions Club sold their building which was the old West Harbor schoolhouse. A new home was then needed. On a suggestion from Tom Nickerson (a former Lion), we checked into using the East Boothbay Fire Dept. building. With approval from Town Manager Dan Bryer and then Assistant Fire Chief Jack Barry, we moved in. The Lions agreed to become stewards of the building keeping it clean and replacing items as needed. It was also agreed that if the club ceased to exist, the tables, chairs, kitchen items, etc. would remain in the building. This has allowed the club to make generous donations to local charities over the years. With Lions International, all monies raised from the public needs to go back to the public.

At Saturday's presentation Tom Nickerson told how the building had rescued the fire department, the Lions and other groups since its rehab. The Lions are grateful for the space.

The first meeting for this year is Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. Come join us and be a part of our service group.
