Boothbay Harbor selectmen prepare for new season
After the annual town meeting, it's a new year of sorts for Boothbay Harbor municipal business. The board on May 12 reviewed town meeting actions, approved annual victualers' licenses and elected chairs.
Chair Michael Tomko said he requested the code enforcement officer create a summary of approved ordinance changes from the May 3 town meeting. The list would also include a brief explanation, to be presented at a later selectboard meeting.
“This will be the opportunity to basically explain what (they) mean and the implications,” Tomko said.
Selectman Mark Osborn asked if the board will follow up with Boothbay Region Ambulance Serice after staffing concerns were raised at town meeting. Selectman Ken Rayle noted, part of the ambulance service budget approval is a quarterly report to the board. “I'd say we just stick with that. That's the process.” he said, and the board agreed.
The board reelected Tomko and Rayle chair and co-chair, and approved over 40 annual victualers' licenses for businesses serving food.
The board also approved a wharves and weirs application at 47 Crooked Pine Road. The application was for a pier attached to a seasonal runway and float. The board agreed the project did not injure the rights of others or interfere with navigation.
Selectmen approved and authorized the signing of the Community School District Budget Validation Referendum warrant and notice of election. The referendum follows the annual school meeting May 7, where residents approved an $11.4 million school budget. Tomko clarified, the approval was procedural, and the board is not for or against the budget. “We are facilitating the process,” he said.
