Boothbay Harbor Selectboard approves computer, building buys
The Boothbay Harbor Selectboard Nov. 24 approved several purchase orders and received updates on town projects from construction to lighting.
The board approved a $28,000 deposit for the construction of the metal sand and salt shed building on Middle Road. Town Manager Julia Latter said the concrete would be poured that week. The board also approved a $26,428 purchase order for mounting computers on police cruisers. She said the order was revised from an earlier approval after the cost went up several hundred dollars.
Latter also said the police department also bought two new software programs to update paper systems. One allows residents to have police check on their homes if the people are out of town for extended periods. The other is a record system for at-risk residents who may need increased police assistance, including those who live alone, have medical concerns such as dementia, or have children who frequently run away. More information on both programs is available on the town website (boothbayharbor.org/departments/police), and residents can also sign up at the town office.
The town rejected all bids for the construction of municipal floats and pilings. According to Latter, the town had budgeted $102,500 and the lowest bid was $125,000. She said the project will go back out to bid by the end of November with a “do not exceed” amount.
In other business, Latter said lighting repairs on the north side of the footbridge are done, and the south side has been contracted. She said downtown sidewalk brick repairs, which ended on Commerical Street, have been completed for the season.
